Wentworth Hunter Pace - June 6, 2021

After Margaret and I had such a fun time at the fall hunter pace, we opted to go again this spring! This time, while I rode Rejoice again, Margaret rode her horse Jester and had a friend ride Ladyhawke. All Kennebec Morgans!! Jester and Rejoice have the same dam and Jester and Lady share the same sire. Unfortunately instead of a lovely late spring day, we had one of the first intensely hot and humid days of the year. It was definitely a bummer, but the ride was mostly in the shade of the woods and we had a great time!  most of the fences were 3' coops but we found a small log and this hay to jump haha Until we didn't. 😑 We brought along a third friend who rode Margaret's older mare, Ladyhawke. She's a good rider but hasn't known Ladyhawke for very long and didn't realize how much of a cranky boss mare she could be at times. She kicked Jester right in the front leg just about halfway through the ride, and while the cut itself ended up not being a big deal in the

Lots of riding and no working!

Yay!  I love vacations!  So far my only complaint is that the temps have hovered in the 40's and the sun has been non-existent.  But, I have been riding and not going to work!  Yay!  That almost makes up for it...though I am willing to bet $$$ that next Monday it will be sunny and 60+ degrees out there.  SIGH So this is week six of conditioning and Dreamy is finally starting to come together.  Her work is much stronger and I am feeling more confident in the idea of trying First level.  :-)  We have had five good rides in a row, April 15 to today, all walk/trot/canter for 40-50 minutes each.  Today we had a lovely canter in both directions.  It was great!  Started with half a circle, then a full circle, and then 2 full 20 m. circles!  Yay!  And finally her trot work after the canter is decent as well.  She loses so much strengthen in her hind end over the winter.  I hate it!  :-(  I am waiting patiently for my instructor to let me know her ring is ready for a lesson...I really

Beach Ride!

On Sunday, April 10, Dreamy and I went to the beach together for the first time!  Yay!  My friend Tania and her horse Otis came along for the fun as well.  Tania and I seem to be horse adventure buddies, as she is my fabulous groom/photographer who accompanied me to WEG this past fall!  We had SUCH a FUN time!  The beach is in Scarborough and is open to horses until May 1.  We hope to go back one more time! Here is Dreamy when we arrived.  I swear, she thought she was at a horse show.  There were other horses already there in the parking lot and you could not see the ocean.  LOL! Dreamy was sooooo good!  She is not a fan of water and mushy sand, but she walked right into the ocean.  The first time the waves came at her, she did back up pretty quickly and look down at the waves, wondering why in the WORLD the water was moving like that!  LOL!  I was laughing because she is so expressive.  But then I brought her parallel to the ebb of the waves and she was fine.  Granted, she see

Spring Conditioning!

So apparently posting for 30 days straight made me avoid my blog for almost two weeks!  LOL!  Not only was I tired of writing so much, life has been super busy.  Thankfully I have been able to stick with Dreamy's seven week conditioning schedule fairly well despite so many things going on.  She is coming along well and I am pleased with her progress so far.  If only the rest of the snow would melt and the rain would stop long enough for everything to dry up.  My riding "field" is still not quite ready for riding so I have been making use of the driveway and road...not the best situation, but it works! It always bothers me when owners pull their horses out of that pasture in the spring after a winter off and don't bother to spend time legging up the horse.  Especially as horses age, they need active work to get back into riding/showing shape.  I try to be very diligent and realistic with my horses.  I write everything down and make a plan ahead of time.  Week 1:
