Wentworth Hunter Pace - June 6, 2021

After Margaret and I had such a fun time at the fall hunter pace, we opted to go again this spring! This time, while I rode Rejoice again, Margaret rode her horse Jester and had a friend ride Ladyhawke. All Kennebec Morgans!! Jester and Rejoice have the same dam and Jester and Lady share the same sire. Unfortunately instead of a lovely late spring day, we had one of the first intensely hot and humid days of the year. It was definitely a bummer, but the ride was mostly in the shade of the woods and we had a great time!  most of the fences were 3' coops but we found a small log and this hay to jump haha Until we didn't. 😑 We brought along a third friend who rode Margaret's older mare, Ladyhawke. She's a good rider but hasn't known Ladyhawke for very long and didn't realize how much of a cranky boss mare she could be at times. She kicked Jester right in the front leg just about halfway through the ride, and while the cut itself ended up not being a big deal in the

You Can Always Go Home

Moving back home in November 2013 was an interesting experience LOL!  I had not lived in my hometown since I went to college in the fall of 1997.  As much as I loved it, so much had changed.  I still taught at the same high school and my son attended the same school (both in the same district), so we were commuting an hour one way each day.  That was tough, but it was definitely worth it.

I experienced so many emotions, but the two things that kept me grounded were my horses and my son.  No matter what, I was committed to doing the right thing for my child because no matter what, he came first.  And I was determined to keep my horses.  My father and grandfather were so generous and amazing, I truly do not think I could have done this without them.  I had boarded my mare, Sparky, with my grandfather through much of high school and all of my college years, so it was literally like "coming home" in every way.

The horses lived in the bottom level of the barn.

Annual bareback Christmas ride on Sparky.  She almost bucked me off when she cantered through the snow!

My grandfather's farm at sunset.  Nothing like driving down the road and three sets of eyes watching you.
Finally the snow melted and everyone got shiny and dapply!  This is Snappy.
Snappy began learning how to be a real dressage horse...

And learning to jump baby jumps!

And I drove her often on the small 1/4 mile track.  My grandfather (and great-grandfather) had bred, trained, and raced Standardbreds for many years.

Dreamy and I explored all the old trails that Sparky and I had ridden on years ago...
And Snappy did her fair share of trail riding, too!
Dreamy being sexy

And Dreamy jumping things...
God, I love this mare!  She was sooooo fun to ride that summer.
