Wentworth Hunter Pace - June 6, 2021

After Margaret and I had such a fun time at the fall hunter pace, we opted to go again this spring! This time, while I rode Rejoice again, Margaret rode her horse Jester and had a friend ride Ladyhawke. All Kennebec Morgans!! Jester and Rejoice have the same dam and Jester and Lady share the same sire. Unfortunately instead of a lovely late spring day, we had one of the first intensely hot and humid days of the year. It was definitely a bummer, but the ride was mostly in the shade of the woods and we had a great time!  most of the fences were 3' coops but we found a small log and this hay to jump haha Until we didn't. 😑 We brought along a third friend who rode Margaret's older mare, Ladyhawke. She's a good rider but hasn't known Ladyhawke for very long and didn't realize how much of a cranky boss mare she could be at times. She kicked Jester right in the front leg just about halfway through the ride, and while the cut itself ended up not being a big deal in the

Equine Affaire 2013

Dreamy and I were lucky enough to attend the four days of Equine Affaire in Massachusetts from November 7-10, 2013.  I trailered her down on the Wednesday beforehand, after a full day of work. That meant we arrived after dark, and we were on our own (ugggg, friend who had wanted to come backed out at the last minute).  We did stable with our friend Kelly from VT and her Standardbred TC, which was nice.  Members from SPHO-MA organized the event, and I think they did a great job!

We participated in a clinic and the Standardbred demo.  I am really glad I had the chance to do this, especially with Dreamy.

Here is an article from the USTA.

Here is the demo video.

Dreamy's stall in C Barn at Equine Affaire- MA
Standardbred Row

This was the breed booth in the Stroh Building. Dreamy was cranky about being here in the breed stall, so she only spent a few hours. I was disappointed, but luckily TC and two other STBs took over her slots. She was much happier to greet fans in C Barn, for whatever reason!
Looking sexy for our demo!  We rode with Julie Goodnight.  The clinic was a waste of time to me, sadly.  It was a 90 minute demo, and supposed to be about the canter (departs, shortening the stride, etc). We cantered three times, once around the ring each time all together. No circles, no transitions, no nothing other than just canter around willynilly. I walked on the buckle for 35 minutes straight at one point. The clinician was on a horse herself and pretty much lectured to the audience the entire time and then demonstrated what she was talking about with the horse she was on. Then literally the last five minutes she goes, oh well, let's canter one more time, meaning the four of us demo riders. We got zero instruction or feedback other than when she said "good" or said nothing at all. It was a little ridiculous.
Dreamy was much happier greeting her fans in C Barn.

And she LOVED hanging her head out waiting for them to arrive!
The demo!  We were "super Standardbreds" this year, which was a fun theme.
TC and Kelly on the right.  They did a dressage demo, while Dreamy and I jumped.
Dreamy and I took long walks in the mornings. She is wondering where the turnout is....hahaha. For a horse that spends 14+ hours outside, she was SUPER good to be in a stall in C Barn for the entire Equine Affaire!
